Education

One of ITM’s mission is to train young researchers on translational research. Our institute welcomes M.Sc. students, M.D., Ph.D. candidates, as well as distinguished early career scientists.

Our mentorship encompasses:

  • Project management and execution
  • Practical training in cutting-edge technologies, such as patient derived disease models including spheroids and organoids, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, state-of-the-art cell sorting, flow cytometry, cell culture, infectious disease models in a biosafety level 3 facility
  • Bioinformatic analyses of single cell RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics and proteomics, epigenetics, machine learning and artificial intelligence, patient and experimental model data integration, statistics
  • Presentation and dissemination of science including publications and conference proceedings
  • Grant writing and funding leverage
  • Transversal skills required to pursue a successful career: scientific communication, networking and promoting collaborations

Through mutually beneficial synergies faculty, clinicians, senior and junior researchers, our graduates benefit from a great training environment. Moreover, our team regularly gets the opportunity to interact with prominent researchers in the field who are invited for conferences.

Enrolment and training of Ph.D. Candidates

ITM Ph.D. candidates are enrolled in the prestigious Doctoral School of Health and Life Sciences – ED414 of the University of Strasbourg and are members of the Graduate School IMCBio that provides disciplinary and transversal training. Built around four different Research Clusters (formerly “Laboratories of Excellence” – LabEx), the IMCBio graduate school aims to educate the new generation of researchers with unique expertise at the interfaces of biology. Federating five research Institutes, this strategic collaboration covers all areas of modern biology at the genes, cells and organisms levels, from model systems to diseases.

Our Ph.D. candidates receive a formal training research and get delivered a Doctorate degree from the University of Strasbourg. Complementary training in the lab is provided with the organization of seminars, summer and winter schools, and workshops.

We are also committed to mentoring clinicians and surgeons spending part-time in the unit, and host full-time medical doctors through tailored MD-PhD programs.
